I've been coming here since 1995, and although the Backcountry Deli makes a great sandwich, the crowds here speak for themselves!....Tip....if you eat lunch here, plan on a super light dinner! ...Big chewy bread, tasty meats and fixings. ....coupled with a cup of French Onion.....One can't go wrong!

Used to go here a lot as a student, kind of a Fort Collins landmark and it's convenient to CSU. But I have to say it's overrated. Sandwiches just alright, menu overwhelming, line long..

This is a great college town sandwich shop with lots of options, a great bar and a little bit of patio seating. If your looking for a New York style deli this is not your place. The creativity put into the sandwiches is impressive and the busy lunch time counter says enough about what you are getting at the pickle barrel. I wish they were open Sundays.

The pickles are delicious and I have liked all the subs I got here. Pastrami, Italian, roast beef. All have been good. They don't skimp on the meat or toppings and the price is right. Being so close to a college campus I could see them putting out a shitty product at a low price, but they avoided that trap. Food is great and price is decent. You can probably get a cheaper sub elsewhere but for the food quality it's well worth it to go here!

I feel like I have reviewed this place before, but maybe I haven't. Anyways, I am happy to review it again because it is one of my favorite sandwich places of all time! I have been coming here for years, and I almost always get the same thing, but everything I have had here has been fresh and wonderful! My favorite sandwich here is the Kiely's! Which has grilled roast beef, American cheese, onions, mushrooms, and Russian dressing, on a wheat hoagie bun. It is so amazing! It is like a flavor explosion in my mouth! I also always get their special root beer which is on tap! My gf loves to get Louie's Ride to Leadville which has ham, capacolla, havarti, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, oragano, oil and vinegar! It is big and tasty as well! Yesterday, I went in and got the special, "The Rolling Stone," which was a chicken Philly with onions, mushrooms, and ranch dressing! It was soooooo good! I think that they should make it a permanent sandwich on their menu!! So far I have only described the food, which is amazing... Well guess what, they have a bar too!!! The bar always has the best of local beers! And it is a pretty comfortable place to hangout! Lastly the staff at this place is AMAZING! They are all great people! Fun and very chill! If you want the best sandwich in Northern Colorado, and quite possibly anywhere EVER, then you need to try this place cause it will put your grandma's sandwich to shame!!!

I love sandwich shops like this. Not stuffy or pretentious, no one is using the word "gourmet", but the food is great and the options and combinations are glorious. Oh and the pickles are amazing. Can I order those by the bucket?

I love this place! It's super close to campus and really convenient, but it's also delicious. It was recently redone, so the inside is new and updated. The bar has a great feel to it, with pretty good happy hour deals. The sandwhiches are made-to-order and never disappoint. I personally love the Funky Punky. Service is great - things get a little hectic around 12:30 but with such a great place so close to campus, that's expected!

Yum and jizz!! The food here is so delicious I don't even know where to begin. The sandwiches are beyond amazing and well worth the wait (the sandwiches take a while to make). The cookies are delectable! I didn't need the sugar, but the peanut butter and chocolate cookie while I waited was easy on the palette. They're homemade everyday! Rich and satisfying. Come in here for a tasty sandwich and drink a beer outside or in the lovely, warm interior. I came here a few years ago while in town with a friend and had a great experience then. I still remember it five years later and can't wait to return! Why does this place only have four stars? I'm a bit bemused by this. Last but not least, the staff is really nice and friendly! Love this place!

Oh man such great sandwiches here, cheesy potato soup...so good. And get a spicy pickle while you are here.

    (4)
  • Todd M.

Went in just after they opened, so they were not busy. We ordered two sandwiches. We weren't asked anything except did we want a spicy pickle. Were given plain meat and cheese sandwiches on dry bread with drinks for $22. Had to take them home and fix them up to make them edible. Won't be back.

I really had no idea what to expect. 4 1/2 years of college and I never once stepped foot in these doors. But, once I got the drift it was easy squeezy. Walk up the stairs directly inside the door and place your sandwich order at the counter. The menu is really extensive with tons of options. After you pay find a seat or head to the bar and your sandwich will be delivered promptly. This joint is MUCH bigger than it looks from the outside. I was surprised to see ample seating in addition to a full bar! It's a really cool place to build a carb base for drinking. You can do both at the same time. Over all the quality of food is decent for a sub shop. I don't think I'll be craving it any time soon. But, the general feel of this place is so Fort Collins I just love it. The people who work here are really cool, laid back and honest folk. The bartendress was way fun and personable. General FTC peeps hang out here - you can grab a beer and speak easy with them. Next time I'm in Fort Fun this will for sure be an option for a quick, easy and inexpensive option for foods. I'm glad I was exposed to this yummy location even if it was well after I graduated from CSU! Go team!

  • Melissa L.

I graduated from CSU many years ago but still think back to the pickle barrel and my stomach growls. Evertime I am in town I stop in for a Toonces on wheat add lettuce and a cup of French onion soup. I highly recommend you do the same.

I'm very, very satisfied with the sandwiches at this location. As you take a bite, the sandwich melts in your mouth as the flavor explodes like the children flying off a wolf-spider's back (if you don't get the reference, look up "Wolf Spider With Babies" on YouTube and it's the first video. WARNING: Not for the faint of heart or arachnophobes). My personal favorite has been the Kiely's. The one sandwich I don't recommend is the Balboa (dry, can't really taste the garlic). The pickles they serve with the sandwich are on-point. Do the spicy pickle. So good. General Pros: -Sandwiches are delicious, as mentioned above. -Service is great and the sandwiches are delivered quickly (within 5-10 minutes. Could be just a bit longer if busy). -There's always a nice atmosphere inside with good ambient noise. People are talking, you can hear the food cooking since the kitchen is in plain view, etc. Not recommended for people trying to get work done. -Nice selection of sandwiches, drinks (non-alcoholic and alcoholic). Their root beer on tap is delicious. Can't remember the brand though. General Cons: -Only complaint I have is the layout of the restaurant/location of the doorway. Of course, they have no control over this, but since they're cramped inside a small place, the layout of the restaurant is a bit bizarre and the front door opens up directly to several of the tables. During the winter, this sucks because it's FREEZING outside. Overall, would really recommend this place for lunch. It's a good stop-in to eat, and you can expect a delicious, filling meal to warm you up for the afternoon. However, if you plan to order a full meal (a.k.a., sandwich + chips + drink), then expect to pay just a little over $10. Not Taco Bell cheap.

The most amazing pastrami sandwich I've ever had! Love the atmosphere, love the employees. So fun! A must see

  • James S.

I never quite understood the appeal of this place. My first day in Fort Collins my brother took me here. OK, it is a sandwich, they serve the soda in a mason jar. Throughout my tenure at CSU everyone would rave about this place and every now and then I would get suckered into going (usually by a girl) and have an underwhelming sandwich that cost too much. After college when I started to work in Fort Collins, I would occasionally have old friends from college or business associates want to go there. Ho hum. Finally I left, I came back for a CSU Football game and this was a must for my friend. Again, same boring sandwich, same high price, still packed as usual by the same crowd that was there the first time I walked in way back in 1990. Quite frankly, the food isn't that good. It's bread, meat, cheese and veggies all put together with a cutesy name attached to it. The atmosphere is collegiate, but full on hippie with bulletin boards advertising a room for rent, guitar lessons or used bongs for sale. You can sit there eating your $8 sandwich while listening to the Grateful Dead and hearing about how the man has kept them all down for the last decade. I also question the cleanliness of this place. Every employee looks like they haven't showered in a week with dreadlocks hanging everywhere, patchouli oil permeating the air and multiple tattoos and piercings for you to observe. And by the way, if you don't look like they do they seem to have an attitude if you deviate off the path of ordering a sandwich and handing them cash. Don't even bother asking a question, the three brain cells they haven't smoked away generally can't comprehend it and the only reaction is surliness. Is this the worst food you'll ever have? No, but don't believe the hype you read here. I'd say it's about 1.5 stars, just a step up from Subway but certainly not even close to Fiona's or Elliot's Mess.

I pretty much trust in Yelp when trying to find a random spot to grub, but this one made me wonder if I should have so much faith in Yelpland. I had the veggie burger sandwich which was not good at all. It appears like they put a bunch of stuff and mushed it together- it was not tasty in the least. We also ordered the Mexican themed home fries, which were great but way over salted. The staff wasn't exactly friendly or helpful. Eh, I wouldn't go back.

The reward of a Pickle Barrel sandwich was the only thing that got me through my chem. labs on Monday when I went to CSU. That and walking out midway to have a smoke. (non-smoker now, btw) I have two favorites here that have stood the test of time. The first is the Christy special. It has grilled havarti, sauteed mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, avocado, lettuce, vinaigrette-maybe a tad too much vinaigrette as it kind of masks the other flavors a bit but delicious through and through-served warm!! The second things I like to get is my veggie version of Charlotte's Shenandoah Shuffle called F's Mississippi Moonwalk (just ask for the FMM) with veggies, cole slaw, swiss and Russian dressing. There is a line and it can be frustrating. It makes the food taste that much better. Makes the reward that much sweeter. I would take a chemistry class again just to eat there. It has a bar area, tables out front. Park your bikes, your dogs, read the local rags. It is on my places to go back to when I visit.

The. Most. Amazing. Sandwich. Ever. My personal fave is the Toonces.. turkey, dill havarti, avocado, tomato.. served toasted and hot.. this just may be what perfection tastes like. Bag of chips and a cold lemonade.. a quarter for the gumball machine..oh, and a chocolate chip cookie for dessert.. Not sure a better lunch exists.. Great menu.. love the location.. comfortable atmosphere.. Fort Collins landmark indeed...

  • Rachel L.

It's fine. Really. But, why is *THIS* the number 1 place to eat in Fort Collins according to yelp? Is there such a glaring absence of delicious fare in FoCo? I'm not sure... Frankly, they make sandwiches. Their sandwiches are good, but whenever I've eaten there, I've thought, "I know how to make sandwiches that taste just like these!" I think it's bread, meat, cheese, and various toppings.... add together... BAM! I never went back. I will say: the bread they serve was really fresh. Thus, the 3 stars. Otherwise it would probably have been a 2...

  • Michele D.

I had a chicken fajita sandwich here today and it was mighty tasty. There is a huge selection to choose from, but if you just can't find exactly what you are looking for, you can also build your own sandwich. However, building your own seems to cost quite a bit more than choosing one from their selections. Now, I would have given them 5 stars, but the wait was incredibly long (like 1/2 an hour or more). We waited in line (and there was only one person ahead of us) forever. Then, when they finally took our order, we waited forever again. It's run very inefficiently. The person who takes your order also makes your food from start to finish. There are about 5 or 6 people working behind the counter. If they did it sort of assembly line style, I would bet they could cut the wait in at least half. The free, unlimited pickles were good, though. If we are in Fort Collins again, I'm sure we will go to B & B's Pickle Barrel again. We will just allow a lot of time (and hopefully be pleasantly surprised if they follow my assembly line suggestion).

Fort Collins has no shortage of decent sandwich shops, and Pickle Barrel is certainly among them. More of a deli setup than, say, Snarfs or Cheba Hut,they have them cold, toasted and every sandwich I've had there is quite good. They used to have free pickles (spicy and non) for munching on while you wait, but I'm guessing someone decided that wasn't all that sanitary and took them away. The bar and eating area also make a nice atmosphere. I highly recommend this good sandwich bar.

  • Patrick O.

There's good, there's damn good, and then there's ARE YOU F'ING KIDDING ME GOOD. Pickle Barrel IMO, reverts to my third description of good. The sandwiches are HUGE and the variety is absolutely amazing, even more so is their beer selection of all the cites current Microbrews. Just accept the fact that because of this, most likely class won't be held as top priority on the day's agenda. So why no 5?? The wait man, the damn wait. The only place in FoCo that actually has a line that seems to NEVER move. I miss you Pickle Barrel.

Best. Sandwiches. Ever. If you're ever in Fort Collins, go to Pickle Barrel. They have the best sandwiches bar none and a great variety of beverages (alchoholic and non). Try the Funky Punky. I went to CSU and lived in FoCo for 5 years and will go to Fort Collins now just for Pickle Barrel. It is way better than Cheba Hut!!!

Got the toonces sans the ranch dressing. Super tasty. The turkey isn't anything that special, but the combo is very good. Very filling, tasty bread (wheat). BF got the tuna and it was pretty bland, but I feel like they somewhat warned of that by only offering it in a boring plain preparation. Creative root beer, which was exciting, but didn't personally love the flavor. Raspberry tea was very sweet, but tasty.

  • Tonya W.

This is one of my favorite sandwiches places in town!! The toonces is amazing! I've had just about all of their sandwiches and keep coming back to the yumminess of the toonces. Think turkey, melted Havarti and avocado... yum! I recommend saving a few bucks and treating yourself to some cookies! They are to die for!! Super super yummy! I don't know what the secret ingredient is- hippie love perhaps? But it's got me hooked. Yes, the wait can sometimes be long but it's worth it. Everything is fresh made to order. And they have a great bar to pass the time.

Stopped here white visiting. We are from the east coast were a deli like this is on every corner, however since its not a usual site in Colorado I was excited to see what they had to offer. We stopped in on a Thursday afternoon (apparently during finals week) and stood in line FOREVER, however I'm happy to report the food was VERY WORTH the wait. I got the tootsey and it was delicious. It was nice they had an option for my vegan friend (she got the Bullwinkle) and thoroughly enjoyed it. I got my husband a rendition on an Italian with a bowl of French onion soup he said the sandwich was so so but his soup was amazing. They had root beer on tap and it was delicious. I loved the quirky Colorado flair inside what felt ash east coast deli. The price was on the steep side in my opinion...almost forty dollars for three sandwiches, two drinks, ava a bowl of soup.

I moved away from Colorado for seven years for work and the entire time I was gone, I missed the Pickle Barrel. There are few restaurants on earth that immediately take me back to a previous time - and this place does it. I'm instantly reminded of my college days and there have I have friends who I didn't go to school with and who live in different states who went to CSU - and all I have to do is send them a picture of my sandwich and they immediately know where I am. I've been back in CO (Denver) for six months and I think I've been here four times. I love me some pickle barrel.

  • Ryan D.

Not impressed. It took ten minutes just for my order to be taken even though there were about ten people working. After waiting thirty minutes for my one sandwich to go, I finally had my order. A fourth of my sandwich didn't even have anything on it. The bread was burnt as well. I will not be back and will not recommend it to others either. Mediocre at best.

hands down best sandwich in fort collins, can be slow. Don't come if you're in a hurry.

a total dive. a local favorite. freakin' awesome sandwich shop. make sure you get a drink so you can drink it out of the pickle jar. :) ATMOSPHERE. a smattering of tables outside... which are more inviting than the rundown seats inside. you're not here for the ambiance though. this place has the magnetic draw of any well-established college town foodie hangout. frenetic energy in the open kitchen emanates to the counter. the staff is friendly and attentive. this doesn't guarantee you're going to be eating quickly. food from the kitchen seems to take awhile since the counter is usually racked with people trying to order. the menu is in chalk on the side wall and above the entry way. there's a variety of signature sandwiches with interesting names to choose from. CUISINE. mostly sandwiches. excellent. do not miss the availability of breakfast sandwiches like i did (one of my faves). the home fries are also a nice side item. the counter staff will be happy to give you a suggestion if you can't make up your mind from the dizzying list. VALUE. the sandwich cost is above average for college-area fare. the home fries, while tasty, are expensive and not exactly plentiful. keep that in mind if you're ordering enough to share. should be enough for two or three. starts to get scarce for 4-5. OVERALL. i would give this place a five star rating if they had more variety in the selection of sides. the homemade pickles are a really nice touch though. this is one of those places i'd be at every week if it was in my hometown. get in early if you're hungry because it gets packed.

First time here and the reviews are correct. Very good food, good vibe. College wait-staff can be hit or miss, but overall good experience and worth the $.

Oh Pickle Barrel, how I love you. We've only been together a short while, but I can already tell our relationship is going to be beautiful. First of all, I love the location. As a CSU student it's nice to know I can walk/bike over here for a sandwich and/or beer without deviating too much from my commute. I don't know if I'm only here when they have drink deals, or if the beers are always reasonably priced, but I'm a fan! $3 beers in mason jars, how quaint. They don't always have what I want tapped, but I can always find something good to drink. Plus the bartenders are always such a pleasure to be around. All my interactions with them have been great. I should probably try more sandwiches, but I'm hooked on the 42nd Street Swinger. Boy, is it tasty. Lots of veggies and cheese! They have a lot of good looking sandwiches (hot and cold), or there's an option to build your own. The atmosphere is great, I love coming here at the end of the day with some friends to let off some steam. This place isn't open very late, but that's never been a problem for me. I see it as a good place for lunch or dinner. The bar area can get crowded though, especially as it gets later. If the weather is nice there's a seating area outside, but the door's right by one of their bar tables so it can be a bit awkward. Long story short: Pickel Barrel is great! Tip your bartender well.

The Funky Punky sandwich is something that I constantly crave. It is so delicious and consistently good. I have been going to B&B since I was a kid and have yet to find a better sandwich shop in Fort Collins. It is always worth the wait.

I saw this little shabby looking deli on my way to noodles and it reminded me of some of the family owned establishments back home in PA so I decided to give it a chance. Their menu is a nice assortment of some traditional sandwiches and if theres a particular sandwich you're fond of, they'll probably have it. I went for their "Sicilian Kiss". The Sandwich was delicious. Perfect amounts of oregano, peppercinis, oil and everything else. Nothing felt overpowered in it. The meat was nice and tender and the cheese was was distinctly pleasant. As far as the bread goes, I haven't had bread this soft and this fresh from a deli in a long time. I even wanted more crust, it was so good. Definitely a good establishment. Now why a 4? Why not a 5 then. Well, the sandwich is prepared like any other sandwich you would make at home, so its not the largest sandwich you'll get. And with a price of seven bucks and some change, I found it a little high. The flavor and quality is great though, so if you don't mind spending a little extra, I'd definitely recommend it.

  • Cameron Y.

I love this place. The menu is so large, there is really something for everyone. The root beer on tap is a must try!! So amazing. They also have home made pickles to eat while you wait for your food. My sandwich was tasty and I will definitely go back!

  • Alden C.

One of the great things about eating at restaurants right by campus is that the food is inexpensive and generally good. The Pickle Barrel is no exception. They offer sandwiches which looked like a great variety as well as serving breakfast all day. I got a breakfast option...I believe it was called The Mexican and it tasted great. Good and fresh! I also ordered a chocolate yogurt shake which also was equally tasty. The Pickle Barrel doesn't often come to mind for me because of the parking but if other options dry up and I am in their neck of the woods I would not hesitate to stop in for a bite to eat.

(Mis)guided by reviews, I too went with the Toonces. Boo. Not good. Though admittedly there must be something that's getting folks to swarm here for lunch. We waited about 40 minutes in a long line for our sammies. I'm giving them the benefit of a doubt, since they're clearly popular. If I were to return, I'd try a different pre-made sandwich, or perhaps, make my own deli-style from their admittedly massive list of options. Either way, I have to give them a positive rating for the PICKLES!! Spicy and plain ol' dill. Free and frequently refilled (just as quickly as I was piling them on my plate). I also have to rave about the banana shake. Made with just the right ripe-ness, it was thick and 'nana-y and awesome. Indoor and outdoor seating (complete with kitschy picnic tables covered in Disney and Loony Tune illustrations). Even a bar. I'm told the pickle martini is a must-try, but I was too chicken -- and perhaps a little too hungover -- to order one...

It's the experience of an East Coast sandwich shop in the heart of Fort Collins. B&B Pickle Barrel is a local favorite with longevity - aka it's not going anywhere because it's so popular. It does have a tendency to be really busy most of the time due to its size. It's a hold-in-the-wall type of joint. The parking out front is limited street parking. Where else can you sit and have an awesome beer in a mason jar while you wait for a deli sandwich? Few places...but you can right here! It's well worth a visit for that deli experience. One of my favorite places anywhere.

  • Raygina K.

We went in for lunch today. The place didn't seem busy so we placed an order and waited. And waited. And waited. About 20 minutes later our food came up, no pickles. The sandwiches are good, the service is okay but don't go in if you're in a hurry.

  • Ron N.

Went here with my cousin for lunch today. I could have sworn that I have been there before (but maybe not). I will certainly return though. I had an awesome sandwich there with turkey, pastrami, and provolone with spaghetti sauce to dip it in. It really hit the spot. The staff was super prompt and friendly and the seating was ample. Only negative: insufficient parking.

As a displaced CSU alum, I often reminisce on my time in the Fort. One of the first places that comes to mind is the Pickle Barrel. Great college atmosphere, great food, and a good selection of microbrews. There are few things in this world better than a good sandwich, and I have encountered few as original and delicious as the Pickle Barrel. The Funky Punky and Toonces are magical, but they're all worth trying.

Hear a lot about this place. Was a little to busy and the process to order is kinda weird. menu was very unique but do not feel the quality was there for all the hype i hear. the bread is definitely NOT fresh like Obees or cheba hut.....I will eat here again because the menu seemed interesting.

Love this place! The Hop Sing is my favorite sandwich. The Pickle Barrel has been in the community for 25+ years and I hope it stays around for at least 25 more years. Parking is difficult, but the atmosphere and sandwiches are definitely worth it.

I've been here hundreds of times and this is one of my favorite sandwich places, which is saying a lot conisdering the amount of sandwich competition in Fort Collins. The bloody marys are awesome and every bartender seems to make them well. I highly recommend the Rocky and the Tobin's Tummy Pleaser. The daily specials are great and the french onion soup is amazing. Enjoy!

In a city where the restaurant scene changes faster than we change underwear, with a non-stop cycle of exciting openings and sad closures, it's comforting for some residents to have the old familiar eateries that have been going strong for generations, sticking around through thick and thin. Sadly, Fort Collins has very few of these places. I think I can count on one hand how many restaurants in Fort Collins that have been open for more than 20 years. B & B's Pickle Barrel is one of them. More often known as just "The Pickle Barrel", this place is a blend of east coast deli and the lovable bar in Cheers, "where everybody knows your name." Back in 1988, two CSU students started the sandwich shop and in 1993, expanded to add the bar. Not much has changed over the years - maybe an extended menu and certainly not the decor (which is a tacky 1980's kitchen kistch of wood paneling and copper pots mixed with sports bar flair). People have been patiently waiting during long lines for years - during their college days and then returning with their own friends and family after establishing themselves post-graduation. For some, it's on the top of their list of places to eat when coming back to visit the Choice City. It's easy to see why The Pickle Barrel has been around for so long. They have some interesting signature sandwiches that sets them apart from every other sub shop around town, and a menu that is sure to please everyone with the amount of variety available. In this continuous cycle of openings and closures in Fort Collins, I hope that The Pickle Barrel sticks around for at least 20 more years.

Went here to pick up some grub last night for dinner- took it to go. Ordered the Toonces for the boyfriend- on a white roll. He said that the first half of his sandwich wasn't too stellar, but the second half made up for it (I know, weird.) I ordered the Funky Punky on Sourdough. Absolutely wonderful. I wish I would have eaten it at the restaurant though, because by the time I got home, the bread was a little soggy. But I didn't mind because it was still so delicious. Can't wait to go back!!

Easily one of the sandwich places in the US, The Pickle Barrel is an absolute amazing addition to the Fort Collins food scene. Always a great selection of rotating taps from mostly local breweries (they were one of the first people to have Odell's on draft, before craft beer was a thing), with a few rotating from out of state. In addition, their sandwiches happen to be my gold standard by which every other sandwich I ever have is judged by, and frankly, I find most every other sandwich place in existence to be poor, or mediocre compared to B&B. Their daily rotating specials (2 with meat, 1 veggie) typically decide my choice on sandwiches, as they are always varied, and continuously delicious, but their standard menu provides a plethora of awesome choices, all with a choice of bread (I always go for sourdough). They happen to have the best French Onion soup in town as well, and is high on my list as a favorite. Not to be outdone with the food, the staff is consistant, and regular, with very low turn over (how often do you see that in a Sandwich shop, especially one in a College town!) which tells you something about the place these people work. The bartenders, Katie and Andrew especially, are top notch, and have made B&B my "local bar" in addition to my favorite Deli. When I'm in for lunch, a train may go by, which turns it into happy hour, and usually a 2 beer lunch, same if it's snowing. If you haven't been to B&B, you're missing out :D

Used to be one of my favorite places back when I was in college 10 or so years ago. Now I find the service has declined and more often than not I end up with a burned under-filled, sub-par sandwich. However, I'm an optimist and I refuse to give up on this shop as the Toonces has always proven to be delicious! I love getting their 1/2 sandwich 1/2 soup meal deal with French Onion soup (awesome and sometimes hard to find elsewhere) You gotta love a giant jar of help-yourself pickles (dill or spicy)! This place definitely gets overrun by college students during the lunch rush on school days, but give it a try and hopefully they can earn back the last two stars that I know they are capable of!

This is a unique place to grab a beer or a lunch. Great soups and sandwiches. Their pickles are spicy and delicious. Good local place.

One of the best Ruebens I've ever had, and I've a lot ..... yea, you pay a pretty penny and no, the pickles are no longer free & unlimited, but this Pickle Barrel virgin will be back for more. Soon.

Best sandwiches in town. Saturday morning Bloody's, few do it better.

Upon the suggestions of a co-worker and fellow yelpers, I gave Pickle Barrel a shot for lunch. I had the Toonces on sourdough, and while it was tasty, it was nothing I couldn't make at home... and probably for a fraction of the cost. Twelve dollars for a sandwich, chips, and a small drink just seems a bit excessive; add in a tip and you've spent a small fortune. Their prices are the only reason I wouldn't return, but if you don't mind overpaying (by a lot) for your meals then by all means, give Pickle Barrel a shot.

The atmosphere of this place is really cool and very collegiate, but that is where my enthusiasm ends. Despite the fact that I always support restaurants that add bars just for the heck of it... the Pickle Barrel falls short. They sandwiches are okay... but they're OVERPRICED. If I were there drinking... this place would have a vastly different review. But I gotta call 'em how I see 'em.

As a transplant to Northern Colorado I must say the food has been lacking. Apart from Pickle Barrel's Toonce's there isn't a single food item I would miss if I left Northern Colorado! What a great college dive bar sandwich shop! It is reasonably priced, fast, friendly and unique. I love supporting local business too!

I love the Pickle Barrel. They use the best ingredients. I would suggest the Havarti cheese. (sooo good!) This is a little more expensive than your typical sandwich place. There is usually a long line and you do have to wait a few extra minutes. If you are in no rush, I would highly suggest going here! They do not offer free refills on their small size drinks which is kind of a bummer.

First order of business EVERY time I return to Ft. Collins is hit up the Pickle Barrel. Once I came to town for only 24 hours, it was a Sat and they ran out of bread. Knowing I couldn't return on Sunday, (they are closed) I was Devastated! I LOVE the Funky Punky! I've been on the quest for a sandwich comparable to this and not found it.

This place was good. I was thrown off and disappointed by the name when I realized that there wasn't a pickle bar, but you receive one pickle with your meal. So the name definitely doesn't mean what it suggests. The sandwich I got was really good and they have so many different sandwiches to offer. I would definitely go back, I'm sure all of their sandwiches are good and the people are really friendly. It was a very popular and busy place in town. The unlimited iced tea that they serve is pretty good too.

Pretty excellent sandwiches. I like the Hop-Sing personally. The way they do drinks here is irrational, no refills on the small yet unlimited refills on the large. I need more beverage than the small provides, but not enough to refill the large. I should e ordering a beer anyway, they have an excellent selection.

I live in Denver and stopping at Pickle Barrel is a must whenever I'm in town. Try the Funky Punky or the Toonces. Sooooo good!!

I got the "Sicilian Kiss" sandwich. A great sandwich. I washed it down the a Fat Tire on Draft. All in all, an enjoyable meal.

I like this place, but I don't go as crazy for it as everyone else. They have good sandwiches, but nothing that will blow you away. The service is fast, the food is good, and the beer selection is great. It's a good place to go have lunch and a beer with some friends.

I never thought my mouth would water hearing the words "Pickle" and "Barrel," especially for a little divey place, but they have. Since moving to Longmont, I miss this restaurant all the time. They aren't open on Sunday, so get your sandwich fill before that. I typically get the Toonces, or make my own. They have a very extensive selection of meat, cheese, bread, and toppings. Sandwiches here are really good when ordered hot. Also try the scrambles they offer. Potatoes, eggs, veggies, and Yum! The only downside is that this place is SO popular, I once got here and they had run out of bread! It's also hard to find a table if you arrive right at the lunch/dinner rush.

I went there for the first time today and found myself very overwhelmed. There are soooo many sandwiches to choose from and some good looking cookies and desserts. I didnt know what to order but the nice people who worked there told me the sandwiches most ordered. I tried the Toonces, and it was pretty good.

Best place in Fort Collins to get a custom sandwich and a pint of a tasty Colorado micro brew. *Closed on Sunday

the few times i have been here, i came here because i friend wanted to come here and they always raved about how good it was here. my thoughts however are of another sandwich place that does what most do, fill the belly, but not the heart. their food is okay, im just not in love with what they have to offer.

So this place will make you a sandwich. They can put together a pretty good ruben, though it may be a bit soggy with sauce. The main thing to know about this place is that you should be prepared to wait.... wait and then wait. The kids working on assembling the sandwiches are amazingly slow and disorganized so just try to sit back and enjoy the circus. They have a great little pub in front with a nice atmosphere. All around you can expect a good sandwich from the Pickle Barrel. But really, five stars for some bread and meat in a plastic basket? Come on people.

I love the Pickle Barrel. I used to hit this place up for lunch all the time when I was going to CSU, the Toonces was my fav. On my last trip home to CO, my friend, my bro and I hit up a couple breweries and then went to the barrel for lunch. Still as good as I remember it.... And the best part...it's a bar too! Seriously, if you live in Ft. C or are looking for a casual spot for a great sandwich, this is the place!

Just thinking about their sandwiches makes me drool, they are freakin awesome, check out their daily specials, this is usually where you find their best sandwiches with tons of stuff on them. They also have great breakfast too. One of my faves in the fort.

Best spot for an amazing sandwich. Sicilian Kiss grilled with light rye; Reuben; or the Tummy Pleaser.

This place is great. The sandwiches are really good, true deli style stuff. The little bar serves up interesting beers, strong drinks, and always friendly, fast service. I am a daytime bar goer and this is a great place to waste the hours you should be spending studying or finding a job. Lots of light comes in the windows and it is across from the CSU campus. On nice days you can sit outside but who would want to? I would describe the place as cozy without a crowd. Others at the bar are always friendly and I never leave without having an interesting conversation with someone. A lot of genuine folk patronize the joint. Evenings are pretty mellow too. By far my favorite place to drink in Fort Collins.

my boyfriend requested that we go to pickle barrel for lunch on his birthday. not only was the sandwich maker insufferably rude, but both of our sandwiches were terrible. i usually hear good things about this place, but i personally will not be returning. if you decide to brave it, avoid the thursday afternoon shift!

This place opened my sophomore year at CSU (God - 1988) and I still make special trips there when I come back to Colorado to visit. My favorite has always been the Tobins Tummy Pleaser, which is the perfect combo of turkey, cheese, mayo and bacon. The awesome sandwiches are exactly the same now as they were then - how many places can you say that about? Long live B&B!

This is a bomb ass East coast style deli and their pickles are actually really freakin' good too! Tons of veggie options and special sandwiches, as well as killer meat-wiches too. I got the Shenandoah something or other which consisted of honey maple cured turkey and ham on rye with swiss cheese, cole slaw and russian dressing. Now, I'm a sandwich man and this one actually being on a menu... TITS!

  • E P.

My Ruben was pretty good, if not a bit heavy on the russian dressing (but you don't get a ruben for its low fat qualities do you?) The line can get reallllly long at lunch time, so go in the off hours. It also has a small little pub attached, nice!

They make the best Rubens I've ever had. That also goes for every other sandwich on their menu!
